Community event highlights importance of diversity in tech and science sectors

WATERLOO REGION, February 4, 2016 — Year of Code Waterloo Region (YoCWR) and Sun Life Financial will host a luminary event on March 10, 2016, to highlight the need to change the ratio of women and visible minorities in the technology and science sectors in Waterloo Region. This dynamic speaking event will feature thought leaders discussing how we can make a difference in our work, school, and private lives.

Leading speakers include Mary Wells, Associate Dean of Outreach and Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Waterloo; Dinah Davis, founder of; Karen Schulman Dupuis, Business Designer; and Alice Thomas, Chief Digital Technology Officer, Sun Life Financial. More speakers to be announced shortly.

Launched last July, YoCWR wants to increase digital literacy in Waterloo Region and improve access to education to help with entry into tech careers. Its events and projects also raise the region’s profile as a global tech centre.
